Data from the 2003-2004 Reading Club
In the Fall of 2003 we partnered with DeHoff Library to began a Reading Club for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. The results were outstanding! Even beyond our expectations.
Our data indicates that Reading Club has been very successful. Seven out of the eight children advanced at least one grade in reading. By the end of the quarter no child was using finger pointing to read, all children were effectively sounding out words, and almost all were independently self-correcting as they read aloud. Children read between 12 and 16 books during the quarterly session. Children seemed highly enthusiastic about the program. All children earned points and were awarded books. Almost all the children obtained library cards and continued to participate in Club the following quarter.
